Marmax Boardwalks help prevent erosion at SSSI

The Humber Estuary is a Site of Special Scientific Interest SSSI and in 2002 North East Lincolnshire County Council made an area to the East of Cleethorpes a Local Nature Reserve. Together with English Nature they have installed Boardwalks along Marine Walk to provide protection and access to the beach and coastal path.
These Boardwalks, made from recycled plastic, create a hard surface and designate the pathway, so protecting the fragile edge of the Estuary from erosion. Their brown colour and low profile help them to blend into the background. The roughened plastic provides a non slip surface and because it is impervious to water does not harbour slippery mould, or rot in damp conditions. They are environmentally friendly because they make good use of waste plastic, which would otherwise find its way into landfill.
