school project is shortlisted for 2013 sustain' magazine awards School Project is Shortlisted for 2013 Sustain' Magazine Awards

07/12/2012

Marmax Products has won through the finals of the sustain' Magazine Awards 2013, which celebrate standout achievements and successes in the field of sustainability. The company is on the shortlist for the Community Award, in recognition of its work on Welwyn St Mary's School outdoor education project. It is one of six finalists competing for the award. The school in Welwyn, Herts, aimed to create a wildlife area where children could learn about nature and sustainability, with a classroom alongside it. The Welwyn Outdoor Classroom - which was created specifically for the school - has since become one of Marmax's standard products and is proving popular with other schools throughout the country. Meanwhile the school's nature reserve is now one of the largest of its kind in Hertfordshire and includes statues, a 'bug hotel', compost area, newt sanctuary and pond. Marmax Products went on to supply the platform beside the pond and an outdoor stage which can be used for outdoor plays and assemblies. All products were made from 100% recycled plastic. The awards are organised by sustain' Magazine in association with Marshalls. The trophies will be presented at an awards ceremony in London on Tuesday 5th March. Jackie Robshaw, Manager of Marmax's plant in Stanley, said: "We are delighted to be on the shortlist for the Sustain Community Award. We work with schools on a regular basis and the Welwyn St Mary's project illustrates what can be achieved." "The school wanted to create an environment where children could learn about nature at first hand, with a classroom that would blend into the surroundings and reflect the principles of sustainability. Our products fitted perfectly with these requirements." "The Welwyn Outdoor Classroom was designed to a 'back to nature' feel, and makes an ideal location for environmental studies. The use of recycled plastic not only provides a cost-effective, environmentally friendly alternative to wooden buildings but the building demonstrates the way in which recycling can reduce waste and minimise our impact on the natural world."

recycled goods for cadbury world Recycled goods for Cadbury World

02/05/2012

An Article taken from the The Journal dated 23rd April 2012:

A furniture manufacturer which recycles plastic bottles to create its products is enjoying sweet success after winning a contract to supply Cadbury World.

Marmax Products, based in Stanley, County Durham, has replaced all the wooden furniture at the Birmingham visitor attraction with picnic benches and seating.

It is now working on picnic cabins in the shape of safari jeeps and an outdoor building for use as a fully-equipped visitor toilet facility. The items will save about 217,000 plastic milk bottles from going to landfill.

Marmax has so far delivered more than 50 heavy duty picnic benches large enough to seat six adults and with an extra long table top to make them wheelchair accessible. They have also created 30 Bournville seats designed in chocolate brown.

Tracey Scott, sales and marketing manager, said: "We are delighted to supply products to Cadbury World, which is a leading visitor attraction and an important heritage site. By selecting Marmax products, it is helping reduce waste going to landfill in line with the company's committment to sustainability."

Tim Gimbert, the heritage site's operations manager, said: "We're so pleased with the results we've asked Marmax to supply recycled products and furniture for other areas of the site."

pig on park bench Pig on Park Bench

01/09/2011

This particularly pretty pig was caught sitting on a Marmax bench at Ripley scarecrow festival in August. The scarecrows all had porcine features in honour of an incident in 1355 when Thomas de Inglby fought off wild boars that were attacking the King. He was knighted for his bravery by Edward lll and his decendants still live in Ripley Castle between Harrogate and Ripon in North Yorkshire.  We think this sow is quite beautiful and looks very comfortable relaxing on her recycled plastic bench.
